1) See a Show

Conroe has many different venues to see a show!  If you want to see a live show, Crighton Theater and Owen Theatre have many events and performances to attend. The Crighton Theater is truly historic and was built in 1934. It is home to five different theater groups and offers a variety of weekly attractions. The Owen Theater is also a part of Conroe history and was built in 1946. They have many different events to attend, like spelling B’s, musicals, and mystery theater. If a live show isn’t on your list of things to do, another option is to head over to Star Cinema Grill. You can not only catch a terrific film in one of their five theaters but enjoy being served a delicious meal while you watch, too!

2) Grab a Brew

Craft beer seems to be everywhere, and Conroe is home to three amazing beer breweries. Copperhead Brewery, Southern Star Brewing, and B-52 Brewing Company are all perfect for a spring break staycation. These breweries offer everything from pale ale to a deep, dark stout and offer weekly brewery tours. After learning how the different beers are brewed and stored, you can sample these tasty beers in their tasting room. If you prefer wine to beer, there is also the Bernhardt Winery, only 25 minutes from Conroe, provides wine tastings and tours Tuesdays through Sundays.

3) A Little History

Conroe is overflowing with history. Between museums and historical landmarks, there are plenty of ways to learn a little history during your spring break staycation. Learn more about the History of Montgomery County and the six flags to fly over Texas at the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County, or head up to Huntsville to the Texas Prison Museum and learn about the history of the Texas prison system as well as capital punishment, and view the decommissioned electric chair used between 1924 and 1964. And, while you are in the area, take a tour of the Sam Houston Museum and Memorial.

4) Go for a Hike

Want to get away from people and spend some of your spring break staycation in the wonderful spring weather? There are plenty of places to get-a-way and do some hiking or have a picnic. W. Goodrich Jones State Park is one of the nation’s largest working urban forests and is located right in Conroe. Close by is Huntsville State Park and the Lone Star Hiking Trail where you can wind along the dirt footpath through hardwood trees and past creeks and lakes.

5) Lounge on the Lake

Your spring break staycation wouldn’t be complete without a day on the lake! Lake Conroe is a 22,000-acre lake with glistening blue waters and an abundance of outdoor recreation areas.
